Levon Helm covering Bruce Springsteen’s Atlantic City

My head just can’t even comprehend this right now. My husband just called me to tell me that our local public radio station was playing this song. I didn’t even know this existed.

Backstory- I am a HUGE Bruce Springsteen fan. I was never terribly impressed with Atlantic City for some reason, until the night that my husband’s band performed it. I was mesmerized, glued to the floor, full-on-ugly-cry in a club full of about 300 people. It has become a crowd favourite. Every time they play, they are asked to play that song, and I cry like my heart has just been broken all over again, every.single.time. Sometimes he looks at me the entire time, and it is almost too much for either of us to handle. It is so beautiful, so heart wrenching, and he can deliver it in a way that Bruce just doesn’t. (And for me to say that, is saying something!). I will try to find a recording and put it up, but I am not sure it will translate. You just have to be there. The room stops, the crowd gets silent, everyone listens, everyone cries, and then when they are done, the room just erupts! It is magic. It is my favourite song, not just my favourite song by his band, but my favourite song.
